About the producer:
Castelli del Grevepesa is a Wine Co-operative established in 1965 by a small group of eighteen winegrowers in Tuscany. Their intention was to bring together a group of people from different areas of the Chianti Classico region whose common purpose was to preserve the centuries old traditions of the Tuscan viticulture.
Concentrating on producing high quality wines by carefully selecting the grapes and by complying with the strict regulations of the Law and the Consorzio “Gallo Nero” (Black Rooster).
Today the co-operative has over 120 members who have their estates in the Chianti Classico Area. Production is based on the Sangiovese grape in the Chianti Classico region.
The Trade-mark chosen to identify Castelli del Grevepesa is the “Iris”, this flower is commonly called “giaggiolo” in Tuscany. The flower grows wild in the heart of the Chianti Classico, in an ancient terrain between the valleys of the Greve and Pesa rivers. Besides being the symbol of Florence, the capital of Tuscany, this flower is well-known and appreciated since antiquity. It is resistant to the hot arid summers and to the cold winters. This flower was chosen because it represents the reliability of Castelli del Grevepesa and its strong links with Florentine Culture and Traditions.
